Snoring happens when airflow through the airway is partially restricted during sleep, causing surrounding soft tissues to vibrate.

While snoring does not always mean someone has obstructive sleep apnea, it can be one of the signs. Obstructive sleep apnea causes repeated interruptions in breathing during sleep and requires appropriate assessment and diagnosis.

Signs that may warrant further evaluation include:

• Loud or frequent snoring
• Pauses in breathing while sleeping
• Waking with a headache
• Dry mouth in the morning
• Daytime fatigue
• Difficulty concentrating
